Yesterday was what you call an adventure. You see, it is hard to move around a foreign land where the language is so hard to understand. When our friend invited us for a fellowship in their house, i was confident that i can easily find the location based on her instructions. However, everything did not went on as expected. The house that we were looking for is located so far from where we imagined it would be. As it goes, we were forced to walk many blocks from where we started! We could have used the bus but we were scared since we do not even have the idea where to stop. (Too scared to go any further) Taxi? The more difficult it would be because we can't speak mandarin. The street names are hard to be familiar with and kept me confused by memorizing them as we go. A lot of regret i felt that day since i brought with me all the kids...(i did not listen to my husband's advise to leave them at home..tsk..tsk..tsk) It was a good thing though that our friends (Rose) who invited us came to where we were and picked up my mother together with my son and went ahead.
What kept on eating me out was the guilty feeling that i could have avoided these peril envolving my friends if only i have given it a lot of thought. (1 of my 2 friends brought along her 3 yr old kid and they have to walk all the distance). The "85 Cafe" is the landmark that was given and the house should be at the back of it. (I should have thought that there are a lot of "85 Cafe" in Suzhou). There was also a misunderstanding of the street location, the names of which i do not remember already and if i did, i just don't know how to spell it.
To lift up our spirits during the long walk, we laughed and talked it out that there is no more greater adventure than getting lost in a foreign land. It was what we call tiresome, but fun! However, deep inside, i can't keep but praying that everything would be alright. Zac, ( Chic-chic's 3 yr old son) was very tired already and in fact stumbled and hit his face on the ground. We have not reached the house yet, and Zac has a bruise on his face!
You can't imagine how happy i was when i heared Chic-chic shuouted, "There, i can see 85 Cafe!". We found the house alright but it still gave us a long time to locate even inside the neighborhood.....We were 2 hrs late in the BS and we were so hungry!
Well, God is good, we still had a good fellowship with the new friends and enjoyed the rest of the hours. Yet, i learned my lesson, next week, if ever i decide to go again, i will go alone (kids at home only) and bear the adventure ahead...
